What
REINdear was started in 2003. It stands for Reaching Everyone In Need. Several
agencies were frustrated with the fact that families were put on multiple lists for Christmas
gifts. Several groups from around the county, including all three local school systems, the
Department of Children’s Services (DCS), the Youth Service Bureau, the Family Crisis
Shelter, and several volunteers, came together to stream line the list of families in need
and the process of gift giving.
Our mission is to coordinate community efforts to support children who would normally do
without during the Christmas season. It also gives people in the community one
centralized location to get names of children they can help. The purpose of this group is to
help decrease the potential for duplication and ensures that every child within a family
receives about the same number of gifts. It also enables us to increase the quality use of
each donor’s generosity. We facilitate the collection and disbursement of Christmas
presents between the donors and the families. In 2006, through the generous support of
our donors, we were able to help 1,285 children in Montgomery County.
How
REINdear keeps a database of names and information about the children who need help
this Christmas including age, size, favorite color, needs and a “wish list”. It is our hope
that any individual, church, business, or organization wishing to assist a family or families
in need will allow us to lend a hand by providing names, needs and a “wish list” for the
children.
